#ICHFoodbank Collection 2020
We are fundraising for a great cause!
This winter, food banks are expecting to give out an emergency parcel every 9 seconds. This can’t go on.
More than 1.2 million emergency food parcels were given to people struggling to afford essentials by food banks in the Trussell Trust’s UK-wide network between 1st April and 30th September 2020, making it the busiest ever half-year period for food banks; over 470,000 of these parcels went to children.
670,000 more people in the UK are at risk of being pushed into destitution this winter – unable to afford the basics in life. We don’t have to live with this.
Rather than collecting food and household items this year we are raising money for the Trussell Trust online.
This year we’ve already made incredible changes to the way we live, work and look after each other. And if we take action together now, we can start to build a future where we can all afford the essentials. That’s why I’m supporting the Trussell Trust’s work to help people in crisis and build a Hunger Free Future.

As the Institute of Child Health, we all consider the health and wellbeing of children every day. As such I'm so proud we have been able to raise this huge amount of money to help vulnerable people, including children, this year.
The BMJ are supporting IFAN (Independent food aid network) this year and this article is very worth reading. https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4758
Though we aren't supporting IFAN as the BMJ are, (because the local foodbank to the institute in Euston, is run by Trussell Trust), any money or items you can spare to help any foodbank is INCREDIBLE. If you donated (items, money, time) to a different foodbank or campaign, please let me know so I can add it to the tally. Using this form: https://forms.gle/xS3pT2yzhVRvTL6Y8

December is here!
Tuesday 1st Dec
We are blown away by almost reaching our target of £150 in just a few days! Thank you so much to everyone who has visited this page and who have donated so far. This money will do so much good!
Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing (over on twitter) updates with the hashtag #ICHfoodbank. Including tips and messages people from the Institute have sent me. Please feel free to share this page on your own social media using #ICHfoodbank.
This is a "not your Christmas party" donation page, with the idea being we have a virtual Christmas event instead of the usual festivities. (I definitely will miss the carols, mulled wine and mince pies in the winter garden). I have not organised a specific foodbank collection event but I (Emma) am a co-quiz master for the III programme Christmas quiz on the 16th of December. If you would like to join in please get in touch and I can share details closer to the time.
Thank you for your support.

#ICHfoodbank collection 2020
Friday 27th NovDear all,
In previous years we have come together and generously donated over 250kg of items to the Institute’s nearest foodbank the Euston Foodbank. Due to the coronavirus pandemic we cannot collect items this year but we would still like to come together to support those in need. There are two ways we think it’s best to do this:
1. If you are able to support your local foodbank, we would like to include a running total of our combined efforts. Whether you are able to donate items (maybe a #ReverseAdventCalendar), money or time to your local foodbank please fill in the details here and/or use the twitter hashtag #ICHfoodbank to help us keep a total.
2. We have set up a donation page, if you would rather donate money to an ICH collection for the Trussell Trust.
Any help is greatly appreciated, this year has been a very difficult one but especially for those who need foodbanks. More than 1.2 million emergency food parcels were given out by the Trussell Trust between 1st April and 30th September 2020, making it the busiest ever half-year period for food banks; over 470,000 of these parcels went to children. This winter, food banks are expecting to give out an emergency parcel every 9 seconds.
Thank you
